The hatchback that started it all is returning in the new year with some noticeable changes. First up for the 2015 Volkswagen Golf Debuting Soon near Puyallup has a new body design that has a unique and different feel to it from previous generations. This is due to a longer, lower, and wider body than previous models. With the addition of the 2015 Golf, Volkswagen has established seven generations of this popular car. The German manufacturer has given buyers plenty of choices for the Golf that include four trim levels: Base, GTI, SportWagen, and R. Also look for a zero emission e-Golf to be available for those who want a plug-in vehicle. The base trim level Golf is available two different engine models to choose from, such as a 1.8L turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder TSI engine mated to a five-speed manual of six-speed automatic transmission, or a 2.0L turbocharged and direct-injected TDI Clean Diesel. Volkswagen says, “This is the first time the entire Golf lineup will feature powerful and efficient turbocharged engines.” The 2015 Volkswagen Golf Debuting Soon near Puyallup 1.8T will earn an estimated highway fuel economy rating of 36 mpg combined with equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission (an improvement of 6 mpg over the current 2.5L Golf).
On the inside, the all-new Golf will be better equipped than its predecessor, no matter the trim level. For those familiar with the legendary GTI, the 2015 model sees a bump of 10 hp and 51 lb-ft of torque from a new EA888 TSI engine. The 2015 Golf S has a standard 5.8″ touchscreen infotainment center, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, VW Car-Net connected services, ambient and footwell lighting with LED reading lights, LED foglights, and a new Driving Mode selection feature.
The SportWagen returns for those who have a need for larger cargo space that is versatile. Not surprising is that the 2015 model has improved the cargo room by 10% over the outgoing model. Select from two powertrains for the SportWagen: a 170 hp 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder TSI engine or a TDI 2.0L Clean Diesel that makes 150 hp. If power is what you’re after, the R is sure to impress. Volkswagen says it’s the most powerful production Golf ever in the US. It makes 292 hp and is more fuel efficient than the outgoing model. The R model is capable of sprinting to 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.9 seconds and is offered in a new 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system for better handling and performance.
